After your third member is professionally assembled and fully set up, it is installed into our dedicated third member break-in stand for a controlled heat and load cycle. Using premium gear oil, the assembly is brought up to a stabilized operating temperature of 180°F, replicating real-world race conditions.
Once target temperature is achieved, the third member is run continuously for 1.5 hours to properly seat the ring and pinion, establish correct gear contact patterns, and allow the bearings to fully mate under controlled conditions. This process helps relieve initial surface stresses, ensures proper oil distribution, and verifies correct preload, backlash, and overall assembly integrity.
Throughout the break-in cycle, temperature and operation are monitored to confirm consistent performance and detect any abnormalities before the unit ever leaves our shop. Completing this procedure in-house eliminates the need for a customer-performed break-in and reduces the risk of premature wear or gear failure.
When the third member is delivered, it is fully heat-cycled, properly broken in, and ready for immediate installation. No additional break-in procedures are required—simply bolt it in, fill to spec if needed, and it’s ready for track or race use.
